Skills in Demand Visa Officially Replaces TSS Subclass 482
A new era of employer sponsored visas promises faster processing and increased job mobility.
The highly anticipated 'Skills in Demand' visa is officially set to replace the Temporary Skill Shortage (Subclass 482) visa.
This new pathway promises significantly faster processing times, increased job mobility for workers, and clearer, more straightforward pathways to permanent residency. A major change is that workers will now have a 180-day window to find a new sponsor if they leave their job, rather than the previous 60-day limit, addressing long-standing criticisms of worker exploitation under the TSS system.
The visa is split into three tiers based on salary and skill level: Specialist Skills, Core Skills, and Essential Skills, each with tailored criteria. This three-tiered approach allows the Department of Home Affairs to process highly-paid, specialized workers in a matter of days.
